El Paso West is a fast-growing, suburban area located west of the Franklin Mountains and north of Downtown El Paso. The mix of new residential subdivisions and custom homes combined with a scenic backdrop give El Paso West an atmosphere all its own. Its neighborhoods – Kern Park, Mesa Hills, Chaparral Park, Cloudview and others – offer new homebuyers a different kind of El Paso living.
The historic neighborhood of Kern Park is thought to be El Paso’s first suburb. Just east of the University of Texas at El Paso, Kern Park is more urbanized than other West Side communities. It offers a bustling entertainment district, plus casual restaurants and coffeehouses that cater to university students.
Mesa Hills, Chaparral Park and Cloudview are part of the more modern West Side community. These neighborhoods offer high-end housing that takes advantage of the region’s scenic valley and foothills. Most of this area was developed over the course of the last 10 years. Small shopping centers are dotted throughout, providing for daily conveniences and places to eat.
Upper Valley El Paso is the name given to the lush river valley that surrounds the Rio Grande. The region has become popular with affluent home buyers, mainly due to its lush natural landscapes. The community’s scenic, riverfront trails are popular with residents and city-dwellers alike. Upper Valley residents can spend their recreational time at one of two nearby country clubs or the Sunland Park Race Track & Casino. Or, a short drive brings residents close to the many activities available in central El Paso.
